Your car insurance premium is determined by your car insurance groups. There are currently twenty different groups in which all cars are placed. The higher the group your vehicle is in, the more expensive the premium. Many people are astounded to find that their car insurance group is higher than they expect. Cars that may be unattractive, not particularly fast, or expensive ends up in a higher category leaving you with a high insurance rate. Knowing more about car insurance groups can help you avoid unnecessarily high prices.

Car insurance companies have grouped together cars of different makes and models in order to see how likely they are to have accidents. This is not as straightforward as it seems. They base their information based on how frequently these vehicles are in accidents in addition to how expensive it is to repair. This is one reason why some cars that look like they would be in a higher group aren’t and also why the plain cars may be in a higher group. One of the deciding factors for this is the cost of repairs and the main reason why cars that aren’t even expensive end up in a higher priced insurance group. It is also a reason why mid-grade cars often get stolen, because their parts are of great value and can often generate great profit. Next time you shop for your car, thin about the car insurance group it fits into. Sometimes, your car selection can save you a great deal of money in insurance premiums.
